Mascara’d Tears

Kohl rimmed eyes
Mascara’d thick lashes
Worn like a uniform
To protect from life’s bashes
.
Careless quick application
Mascara dotted the skin
No Qtip now, another procrastination
To begin
.
The phone rang loud
From her purse pocket
It rang so loud
That she almost dropped it.
.
“Change the ringtone”
She muttered to herself
The phone call that came
It was her man… Himself.
.
That night he informed her it was over
He told her not to come back
He just wanted closure
.
The conversation went on for a moment or two
He just wanted to date
He told her what to do.
He said, “You should move out…”
“Preferably tonight.
“We should have never moved in”
And he picked a fight.
.
She hung up the phone
The tears started to fall
Streaming dark black mascara
And tried not to bawl
.
Was it just sadness?
or a dumb mistake?
Was this fair?
Or just a twist of fate?
.
There would be time
thoughts would wash over
Her heart and her head
Would have a talk over
.
Her mind was reeling
Her heart in shambles
If this is what love was
It was not a good example
.
She took a deep breath
and wiped her eyes
Her dark black mascara
Not, on her eyes.
